USMC Pfc. Raymond A. Ranelucci, Jr., was born and raised in Rensselaer County. He was a student of Averill Park HS during the Vietnam War Era.  In 1963, his patriotism called him to serve and he joined the United States Marine Corps. After graduating boot camp, he immediately was deployed to Vietnam.

 

In 1964, Raymond lost his life in battle.

This Memorial Fund was developed by his family and friends to remember him and the sacrifice he made, serving his country and to promote the awareness of the United States Armed Forces.

The PFC Raymond A. Ranellucci, Jr. Veterans Memorial Scholarship is a one time scholarship award of $500.  To qualify you must be a son or daughter or relative of a veteran of the US Military Service or any HS Senior that will be entering ROTC/Military Academy as a freshman in college.  Additional focus, will be on a student who is participating in community/ school activities and has maintained an above average GPA.


This HS Senior, will be required to write a brief essay on the topic of, "The True Meaning of Memorial Day".

VFW Post 8692, will administer & disburse the scholarship award. The selection will be determined by the Pfc. Raymond A. Ranelllucci, Jr. Veterans Memorial Scholarship Fund Award committee.

THE LATHAM VETERANS’ MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

GUIDELINES:

Latham Veterans’ Memorial Scholarship Program will committee will review applications and award up to $1000 for students about to enter an accredited college or technical/trade school. In order to qualify for consideration, applicants must meet the following criteria:

1.Be a son, grandson, great grandson, daughter, granddaughter, or great granddaughter of a current member in good standing of the veterans, ladies’ auxiliary or men’s auxiliary of the Robert L. Weininger Memorial VFW Post 8692.

2.Be a High School Senior who intends to enroll as a full-time (12 or more credits) student in an accredited post-secondary institution or technical/trade school in the Fall.

3.Need of financial assistance.


APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Completed application form:

1.A Certified copy or photocopy of applicant’s high school grades.

2.Three (3) letters of recommendation. One from the principal or guidance counselor of the school in which the applicant is enrolled and two from representative citizens, other than relatives, attesting to the character, industry, Americanism, Leadership and Scholarship of the applicant.

3.A statement of applicant’s volunteer work.

4.Certification of acceptance and/or letter from the college or technical/trade school stating date certification will be received from the school he/she plans to attend.

5.An autobiographical account written by the applicant, of not more than 500 words (typed), which includes his/her interests and experiences, long range plans and goals.
